Dogs and pubs / Perros y bares

We do love animals. They are adorable. However, some people prefer cats while others prefer dogs, or none at all. Indeed, as human beings, it's important to recognise that not all humans have an affinity for cats or dogs, and we should respect their preferences.

With this perspective in mind, I would like to address a concerning trend that some dog owners are adopting. It seems that a few of them find it difficult to accept that not all pubs are pet-friendly. Have you considered the comfort of the customer seated next to you?

In my case, I have a fondness for dogs (almost every dog). Nevertheless there was an incident when I attended my regular English meet-up. A woman I was acquainted with had her dog sit down close to me. To be fair, the dog was quite cute. Nonetheless, things took an unpleasant turn when another dog passed by, and her dog's behaviour turned rather aggressive. It scared me. But, why should I have to endure the hostility of a dog I don't even know?

Furthermore, during a recent French meet-up, a woman brought her dog along, as she often does. While I don't have any complaint—the dog appears friendly—I'm also aware that another participant in the group has to put herself on the opposite side of the table due to her fear of the dog. She doesn't speak up since she doesn´t want to offend the owner, who frequently complains about the limited number of dog-friendly bars in Pamplona.

In summary, I'd like to remind dog owners that not everyone shares the same fondness for dogs, and it's crucial to respect that. While being pet-friendly is an ideal concept, we must remember that we can't force everyone to have the same appreciation for dogs. It's worth considering that many people find it uncomfortable to enjoy a drink or a meal next to a dog. In addition, numerous individuals have allergies to dogs. With this in mind, my point is that while being dog friendly is wonderful, we shouldn't impose our love for dogs on everyone. Let's make an effort to empathise with others' perspectives.

Amamos a los animales. Son adorables. Sin embargo, algunas personas prefieren los gatos mientras que otras prefieren los perros, o ninguno en absoluto. En efecto, como seres humanos, es importante reconocer que no todo el mundo tiene afinidad por los gatos o los perros, y debemos respetar sus preferencias.

Teniendo esto en mente, me gustaría abordar una tendencia preocupante que algunos dueños de perros están adoptando. Parece que algunos de ellos tienen dificultades para aceptar que no todos los establecimientos permiten la entrada de mascotas. ¿Has considerado la comodidad del cliente que está sentado junto a ti?

En mi caso, siento cariño por casi todos los perros. Sin embargo, el otro día, en uno de mis intercambios de inglés sucedió algo que no me gustó nada. Una mujer tenía a su perro sentado cerca de mí. Para ser sinceros, el perro era muy mono. No obstante, las cosas se pusieron feas cuando pasó otro perro por al lado, y el perro de la mujer se volvió bastante agresivo. Me asustó bastante.  Y es que, ¿por qué debería tener que soportar la hostilidad de un perro que ni siquiera conozco?

Además, durante un reciente intercambio de francés, una mujer llevó a su perro, como suele hacer siempre. Si bien yo no tengo ninguna objeción, pues el perro parece tranquilo, también soy consciente de que otra participante en el grupo tiene que sentarse al otro lado de la mesa debido a su miedo al perro. Ella no se queja, ya que no quiere ofender a la dueña, quien protesta de la cantidad limitada de bares en Pamplona que permiten la entrada de perros, pero se le ve molesta. 

En resumen, me gustaría recordar a los dueños de perros que no todos comparten el mismo cariño por los perros y es crucial respetar eso. Si bien es lo ideal que todos seamos pet friendly, debemos considerar que no podemos obligar a todos a tener la misma apreciación por los perros. Vale la pena tener en cuenta que muchas personas se sienten incómodas al disfrutar de una bebida o una comida junto a un perro. Además, muchos les tienen alergia. Con esto, lo que quiero decir es que si bien ser tolerante con las mascotas es idílico, no debemos imponer nuestro amor por los perros a todos. Hagamos un esfuerzo por ponernos en el lugar de los demás.
