Russian players in Wimbledon?/ ¿Jugadores rusos en Wimdledon?

June and especially July seems far away, however since we are already in April, the big events and tournaments that take places in summer must be dealt with, and that is why the Head of Wimbledon has just had to decide whether Russian tennis players are going to be able to represent their country or not. Care to guess the answer?

According to Wimbledon, it has been the most difficult decision they have ever had to make since they have received a lot of pressure due to the War against Ukraine perpetrated by Russia. Finally, even though Ukraine has asked Wimbledon to have mercy and not allow any sort of Russian representation at the tennis tournament, at the end players from Russia are going to be able to play for their country as long as they don’t show any kind of support to Mr Putin. What are your thoughts on this decision?

In my opinion, for the one hand I understand that forbidding this representation would be symbolic, a measure of pressure and punishment against Putin. Nevertheless, on the other, I firmly believe that we must separate the ideas of Putin and his followers from the ideas of the rest of the Russian citizens. What I am trying to say is that I am sure that the majority of Russian don’t share or support this special operation. In other words, Russia is much more than Putin and his war.

Has the whole Russia  have to pay for all the evil ideas of Putin? To be honest, last year these players could participate on championships under another representation, which is an euphemism so as to avoid mentioning the word Russia. Does it make sense?  In Spain we know how does it feel to be prejudged by the political, military and terrorist acts of an specific group of citizens, and it’s not quite amusing, is it?

Junio y Julio parecen lejanos pero no, ya estamos en Abril, así que están a la vuelta de la esquina, por tanto los grandes eventos o campeonatos que tienen lugar en verano tienen que ser ya organizados, y por ello mismo la dirección de Wimbledon acaba de tener que decidir si los jugadores rusos podrán ser capaces de representar a su país o no. ¿Tú qué crees?

Según Wimbledon, ha sido la decisión más difícil que han tenido que tomar, debido a la gran presión recibida por la guerra de Rusia contra Ucrania. Finalmente, aunque Ucrania ha suplicado a Wimbledon que no permitiese ningún tipo de representación rusa en el campeonato de tenis, al final los jugadores rusos podrán representar a su país siempre y cuando no muestren apoyo al señor Putin. ¿Qué piensas acerca de esta decisión?

En mi opinión, for un lado entiendo que prohibirles jugar sería simbólico, una medida de presión y castigo contra Putin. No obstante, por otro, creo firmemente que debemos separar las ideas de Putin de las del resto de ciudadanos rusos. Con esto quiero decir que estoy segura de que la mayor parte de los rusos no comparten ni apoyan esta operación especial. En otras palabras, Rusia es mucho más que Putin y su guerra. 

Tiene que pagar toda Rusia por las ideas maquiavélicas de Putin? Para ser honestos, el año pasado estos jugadores pudieron participar en campeonatos bajo otra representación, lo cual es un eufemismo para evitar mencionar la palabra Rusia. ¿Tiene sentido? En España sabemos qué se siente cuando eres prejuzgado gracias a los actos terroristas de una minoría, y no es nada agradable.
