How The Queen unified a whole nation/ Cómo la Reina unificó a toda una nación

As you all well know, the 8^th of September of 2022 will always be remembered, since it is the day in which The Queen of England died after seventy years of reign. To be honest, everybody knew that this day was approaching, for she was 96 years old and lately she wasn´t feeling quite well. Nevertheless, this news has been a shock not just for the UK and for the Commonwealth, but also for the whole word. As a matter of fact, I find it utterly impressive the power of unification that The Queen Elisabeth II has always entailed.

That Monday at midday, one old work colleague from England passed me on the message that rather soon we were going to have to mourn the death of the Majesty, thus I opted for putting the BBC radio on so as to know what was going on. More specifically Buckingham Palace had released a strange announcement transmitting its concern about her health, stating that she was comfortable in her Balmoral Palace, which obviously meant that she was about to pass away.

 In light of this news, what took me aback was how this historical moment was being experienced by the journalists of the BBC. The fact was that since all the royal family was leaving everything, including the Prince Harry, in order to reach Balmoral, everybody was expecting the sad news, so you could notice the journalists, regardless of their political beliefs, were completely emotional and moved, trying to hold their tears whilst they were doing their best to update the audience.

Indeed it doesn´t matter if you are a republican or not, the point is that Queen Elisabeth II has been able to unify a whole nation. It is remarkable how the British people love their queen and how they live her death. I highly doubt that this reaction would happen in Spain should the King die. Now it is time for Charles to show the world that he has what it´s needed to reign.

Como bien sabréis todos, el 8 de septiembre del año 2022 va a ser siempre recordado, ya que es el día en el que la Reina Isabel II ha fallecido tras setenta años de reinado. Para ser honestos, todo el mundo sabía que este día estaba cerca, pues tenía 96 años y últimamente no se encontraba muy bien. No obstante, esta noticia ha sido un shock para todos, no solo para el Reino Unido y para la Common Wealth, sino que también para el munto entero. De hecho, me parece increíble el poder de unificación que la reina siempre ha tenido.

Ese lunes al mediodía, una antigua compañera de trabajo de Inglaterra nos dijo que pronto íbamos a tener que estar de luto por su Majestad, así que opté por escuchar la radio de la BBC y averiguar qué estaba sucediendo. Más concretamente Buckingham Palace había publicado un comunicado un tanto extraño mostrando su preocupación por la salud de la reina, afirmando que se encontraba cómoda en su palacio de Balmoral, lo que quería decir que estaba a punto de fallecer.

A la luz de esta noticia, lo que me sorprendió fue cómo estaba siendo vivido este momento por los periodistas de las BBC. El hecho de que toda la familia real estaba dejando todo, incluso Harry, por ir a Balmoral, hizo que todo el mundo sospechase las malas noticias, por lo que se notaba cómo los periodistas, independientemente de sus ideas políticas, estaban completamente emocionados, intentando aguantar las lágrimas mientras mantenían informada a la audiencia.

Y es que da igual si eres republicano o no, el caso es que la Reina Isabel II ha sido capaz de unificar a toda una nación. Es impresionante cómo los británicos la quieren tanto y cómo viven su muerte. Dudo mucho que España reaccionase así ante la muerte del Rey. Ahora le toca a Carlos demostrar que tiene lo que hay que tener para reinar.
