First steps in Cambridge/ Primeros pasos en Cambridge

Around two weeks ago I started offering one to one English lessons to a young lady that reminds me of myself when I was her age. Why? Because she has spent the last summer in Bristol studying English with EF, Education First. She reminds me of myself for last Sunday eleven years ago I did the same, with the same academy, but in Cambridge. In addition, as it happened to me, she had such a great experience that she just wants to come back. Have you got the experience of living abroad for several months?

In my case, I must admit that at the very beginning leaving Pamplona was not very appealing, far from that. As a matter of fact, I remember that when I first arrived at Cambridge I felt rather scared. Nevertheless, after a good night rest, once I started my English classes, everything changed. For starters, since I like studying English, spending the whole day in an academy wasn´t that terrible, nothing at all. Besides, from the first day I made a lot of friends from my class with whom I hit it off.

Taking this into account, not only did I spend hours on end at an English school, but also, after our studying I used to spend entire afternoons hanging out around the town with my friends, getting to know each other, learning from other cultures and, of course, practising English. Not to mention the fact that I had the chance to easily go to London and enjoy the big city, including its amazing musicals. On another hand, I got familiar with the English night and, obviously, I commenced to learn how to be a young responsible adult.

On balance, regardless of your age, should you haven´t lived yet the experience of living abroad, I highly recommend it so as to broaden your mind, get to know yourself somewhat better and improve your language skills at the same time that you make friends from all over the world. Hace como unas dos semanas empecé a dar clases de inglés a una chica joven que me recuerda a mí cuando tenía su edad. ¿Por qué? Porque pasó el verano pasado en Bristol estudiando inglés con EF, Education First. Y es que me recuerda a mí, ya que hace once años hice lo mismo, con la misma academia pero en Cambridge. Además, tal y como me sucedió a mí, tuvo tal bonita vivencia que lo único que quiere es volver. ¿Has tenido la experiencia de vivir en el extranjero durante varios meses?

En mi caso, debo admitir que al principio dejar Pamplona no me motivaba para nada. De hecho, recuerdo que cuando llegué a Cambridge me agobié un poco. No obstante, tras una buena noche de descanso y una vez que empecé las clases, todo cambió. Para empezar, como me gusta estudiar inglés, pasar todo el día en una academia no me parecía tan terrible. Encima hice amigos de clase desde el primer día.

Teniendo esto en cuenta, no solo metía muchas horas en la academia, sino que además, tras nuestro estudio solía pasar tardes enteras con mis amigos, conociéndonos, aprendiendo de otras culturas y por supuesto, practicando inglés. Por no mencionar el hecho de que tenía Londres a tiro de piedra. Por otro lado, también disfruté de las noches de Cambridge y comencé a aprender a ser una adulta responsable.

En conclusión, independientemente de tu edad, si aún no has vivido la experiencia de vivir en el extranjero, te recomiendo que lo hagas, así abrirás tu mente, te conocerás mejor y mejorarás el idioma que estés apreniendo a la vez que haces amigos de todo el mundo. ¿Suena bien? Pruébalo.
