On the brink of being collapsed/A punto del colapso

Despite many people being in denial, we all know that regrettable this Covid-19 pandemic is far from over, above all with the surge of this Omicron new variant. However, fortunately we are not in such a dangerous position thanks to the quick boost of vaccines. Nevertheless, I have just happened to realise that right now the public health system is on the brink of being collapsed. What is the problem? Why is it so difficult to reach our GPs?, why do we have to wait hours and hours until someone, a nurse or a doctor, can assist us?, what is the solution?

Although I was under the misapprehension that only my local medical centre was swamped, to my surprise, according to what friends, family members and other citizens have claimed,  the telephone lines of the health centres throughout Pamplona are overwhelmed. Having said that, perhaps I ought to not be so taken aback should we take into account that many townspeople are getting infected with Covid, notwithstanding, correct me if I am wrong but we have been much more badly affected by this virus in 2020 and I have the impression that never has the non-urgent medical service been so busy.

To make things worse, some nurses and doctors cannot be bother to say “sorry for the waiting” when eventually you are assisted. In fact they even rudely imply that under no circumstances must you complain. What is going on? Some weeks ago I noticed on the wall of my Medical Centre an apology letter defending their lacking of staff. A lack of staff? How have we arrived to this point proving they have a fix contract for life with a good salary without even being required to work in the Emergency Room?

On balance, should the health system be on edge, why the government does not put in place harder restrictions as to avoid the rapid spread of Covid? Why is every single city hall taking so long to make such crucial decisions?

A pesar de que mucha gente vive en la inopia, casi todo el mundo es consciente de que esta pandemia de Covid-19 está lejos de ser vencida, sobre todo con la nueva variante Omicron. No obstante, tenemos la suerte de no estar en la misma situación de peligro mortal que hace dos años gracias al rápido proceso de vacunación. En cambio, por otro lado, me acabo de dar cuenta que ahora mismo nuestro sistema sanitario está a punto de colapsar. ¿Cuál es el problema?, ¿por qué es tan difícil hablar con nuestros médicos de cabecera?, ¿por qué tenemos que esperar horas y horas hasta que alguien, una enfermera o un médico pueda ayudarnos?, ¿ cuál es la solución?

Aunque tenía la impresión de que solo mi centro de salud estaba saturado, para mi sorpresa, según afirman amigos, familiares y otros ciudadanos, las líneas telefónicas de todos los centros médicos de Pamplona están desbordados. Dicho esto, no me debería de sorprender si tenemos en cuenta la cantidad de locales que se están contagiando de covid, sin embargo, corregidme si me equivoco pero en el año 2020 estuvimos mucho peor afectados por este virus y creo que el servicio médico no urgente nunca ha estado tan colapsado. 

Para empeorar las cosas, algunas enfermeras y doctores ni siquiera se molestan en decir “lo siento por las molestias y la espera” cuando finalmente eres atendido. De hecho, algunos de manera notablemente borde te sugieren que no deberías quejarte. ¿Qué está sucediendo? Hace unas semanas observé que en la pared de mi centro de salud había una carta pidiendo un poco de paciencia y comprensión debido a la cantidad de médicos que se han ido. ¿Falta de personal?, ¿cómo hemos llegado a este punto si tienen un contrato fijo de por vida, buen salario y ni siquiera tienen que estar en urgencias?

En conclusión, si resulta que el sistema sanitario está tan al borde del colapso, ¿por qué el Gobierno no pone restricciones más duras con el fin de evitar la propagación del virus?, ¿por qué todos y cada uno de los ayuntamientos tarda tanto en tomar tal cruciales decisiones?
