'Suits' and the remarkable role of Meghan Merkle/'Suits' y el admirable papel de Meghan Merkle

Little did I know about the TV series Suits before the Prince Harry started to date Meghan Merkle, nor the Prince himself, thus, when Netflix recommended to give it a try I did not hesitate. The serial is entertaining and engrossing from the very beginning, although you really get hooked into it after two episodes. However, what struck me most about it was the acting role of Meghan. Aren´t you curious about her qualities as an actress?

Frankly speaking, in my humble opinion Meghan does indeed a remarkable job on Suits, and her role is not precisely a secondary one. To be more specific, I must say that whilst watching this series I have totally forgotten about her former life as The Duchess of Sussex. As a matter of fact, not only did I believe that she was a para-legal on the firm she was working for, but also she managed to convince all of us that she was capable of being an excellent lawyer. Well done!

Notwithstanding, I consider that the stepping down of Meghan on the last season is quite forced. It is utterly obvious that she does not appear at all on account of her upcoming marriage with the youngest soon of Lady Di. Nonetheless, to my mind, it is rather unfair to show her casting part as a selfish person that all of a sudden disappears and doesn´t call her friends back. Not to mention (spoiler alert) the fact that she doesn’t event attend the wedding of one of her best pals. This is not to say that the producers should have killed her character, however, maybe it would have been better to have made up an alternative story that would have explained her absence.

Finally, as for the series itself, I would like to highlight one of the final scenes in which the partners of the firm state that not only are they work colleagues, or friends, but also family who support each other whenever there is a crisis. This line reminded of how I used to feel working for Hilton hotels, since, despite ups and downs, we were a team that cared about each other, which was more than proved when this Covid-19 pandemic commenced and many employees were asked to leave. In that moment you realise that not only is your manager your mentor but also your big sister. Definitely I was very lucky working with her.

No tenía ni idea de la existencia de la serie Suits hasta que el Príncipe Harry empezó a salir con Meghan Merkle. De hecho, ni siquiera el propio príncipe la conocía, por lo que cuando Netflix me recomendó darle una oportunidad, no lo dudé ni un instante. La serie es entretenida, aunque en verdad empieza a enganchar a partir del segundo episodio. No obstante, lo que más me ha impresionado de ésta es el papel que Meghan lleva a cabo. ¿Tienes curiosidad por saber cómo actúa?

Para ser sinceros, en mi humilde opinión Meghan hace un trabajo increíble en Suits, y su papel no es precisamente secundario. Para ser más específicos, debo decir que mientras estaba viendo este show me he olvidado completamente de su vida como Duquesa de Sussex. De hecho, es más, no solo me he creído que trabajaba como para-legal para una firma de abogados, sino que también ha conseguido convencerme de que era capaz de ser una excelente abogada. ¡Bien hecho!

No obstante, considero que la retirada de Meghan en la última temporada es bastante forzada. Es más que obvio que no aparece en absoluto porque se iba a casar con el hijo pequeño de Lady Dy, pero pienso que es tremendamente injusto que muestren a su personaje como el ser más egoísta del mundo, que abandona a sus amigos y ni siquiera acude a la boda de uno de sus mejores compis. Con esto no quiero decir que deberían haberse cargado su papel, pero sí que los guionistas podrían haberse inventado alguna historieta alternativa para explicar su repentina ausencia.

Finalmente, en cuanto a la serie en sí, me gustaría señalar una de las escenas finales en la que los socios de la firma aseguran que no solo son compañeros de trabajo o amigos, sino que también son una familia que se apoya mutuamente en tiempos de crisis. Este diálogo me recordó a cuando trabajaba para los hoteles Hilton, donde, a pesar de los altibajos, éramos un equipo, una familia, lo cual fue más que comprobado cuando esta pandemia de Covid-19 comenzó y muchos trabajadores tuvimos que abandonar nuestros puestos. En ese momento te das cuenta de que tu jefa, además de ser tu mentor, es tu hermana mayor. Tuve mucha suerte con ella.
