As you all know, last Saturday was the twentieth anniversary of the widely called 9-11, the atrocious terrorist attack perpetrated on the Word Trace Centre of New York, where almost three thousand people were killed and thousands more were injured. 20 years has passed, I can not believe how time flies. Do you remember what you were doing at that moment? I bet everyone remembers thoroughly.
In my case, I was about to turn twelve years old, therefore I was still on holidays since I was on the point of beginning high school, secondary school. More specifically, that day I went to the hospital with my mother so as to get tested about possible allergies, which led to the diagnosis that I am allergic to dust, among other things. To be honest, I do not remember that day quite clear, for it is kind of a blur, however, the images of the attack on TV will remain forever in my head.Like every normal day, we were having lunch and we were watching The Simpsons, which was always followed by the TV News of Channel three at 15 o clock on the dot. Nonetheless, that 11th of September of 2001 The Simpsons was interrupted earlier than usual with shocking breaking news: There had been a plane crash into the Tower One of the World Trace Centre of New York. Everybody thought it was a terrible accident and we were concerned about the possible victims. Notwithstanding, several minutes later, all of a sudden, and with the whole world stuck to the small screen, a second plane crashed into the Tower Two, which made us crystal clear that USA was under attack.
I recall being relentlessly steering at the TV, petrified, in shock. I was still too young to fully understand what was going on but I was definitely feeling completely horrified for the victims. Not only were residents running away covered in dust, but also we could discern people jumping out of the windows. What an awful image. On top of that, hours later both towers failed down, which I am sure was utterly traumatic for all the New Yorkers. All in all, today we can say that we witnessed one of the most catastrophic moments of the modern history, something that our kids will study and that we will be able to explain by ourselves. Hopefully we will not live anything like this ever again, although it is hard to believe since after twenty years The Taliban have come back to Afghanistan, spreading fear to every single corner.
Do you remember the 9/11? How did you feel?
