English and French meet-ups, join us!/ ¡Meet-ups de inglés y francés, únete!

Do you speak a second or third language? If so, did you know that in Pamplona there are groups that organise weekly meet-ups to practise them? As far as I know, you have the chance to practise English, French, German, Basque, and Spanish. Interested? If you are, I would definitely recommend taking part, as they are quite fun. To begin with, I must say that I found out about the English group Pamplona Tandem (there is another one) ten years ago thanks to a friend of mine who used to study with me at university and work with me. However, you can easily find this group on Facebook and Instagram. Having said this, it is very easy to take advantage of it.

Indeed, on a weekly basis, the organisers Roger and Georgios hold one meet-up on Tuesday evenings and another on Friday evenings at Bar Niza. On Tuesdays it begins around 7 PM and on Fridays around 8:30 PM, although you can come along whenever you want. Barely anyone is on time, though. So, how does it work? You just have to go, leave aside your shyness and talk, that’s it. There you will just talk in English to some locals and natives and nobody is going to think less of you if you make mistakes.

Finally, whereas on Tuesdays the atmosphere is quieter, it is true that on Fridays more youngsters participate, so people tend to drink more beer than coffee until they are ready to go somewhere else or home. Basically, you can have a quiet night or a wilder one in an English-speaking environment.

To be honest, it is a good way to brush up on your English, make friends, and why not meet your soulmate. Moreover, not only is there another English group held on Wednesdays, but also, as mentioned earlier, there are other meet-ups to improve other languages. ¿Hablas un segundo o tercer idioma? Si es así, ¿sabías que en Pamplona hay grupos que organizan encuentros semanales para practicarlos? Por lo que sé, tienes la oportunidad de practicar inglés, francés, alemán, euskera y español. ¿Interesado? Para empezar, debo decir que conocí el grupo de inglés Pamplona Tandem (hay otro) hace diez años gracias a una amiga mía que solía estudiar y trabajar conmigo. Sin embargo, puedes encontrar este grupo fácilmente en Facebook e Instagram. Dicho esto, es muy fácil participar en él. 

Semanalmente, los organizadores Roger y Georgios organizan un encuentro los martes por la tarde y otro los viernes en el Bar Niza. Los martes comienza alrededor de las 7 PM y los viernes sobre las 8:30 PM, aunque puedes ir cuando quieras. Eso sí, casi nadie llega punctual. Entonces, ¿cómo funciona? Solo tienes que ir, dejar de lado tu timidez y hablar, eso es todo. Y es que allí tu único trabajo es hablar en inglés con locales y nativos y nadie te va a menospreciar si cometes errores.

Finalmente, mientras que los martes el ambiente es más tranquilo, es cierto que los viernes acude gente más joven, por lo que se tiende a beber más cerveza que café hasta estar listos para ir a otro bar o a casa. Básicamente, puedes tener un plan tranquilo o irte de fiesta en un ambiente de habla inglesa.

Para ser sincera, es una buena manera de practicar tu inglés, hacer amigos y quizás algo más. Además, no solo hay otro grupo de inglés que se reúne los miércoles, sino que también, como he mencionado anteriormente, hay otros encuentros para mejorar otros idiomas. Por ejemplo, en mi caso, participo en el grupo de francés que se junta los viernes por la tarde. ¿Suena interesante? Si necesitas más información, házmelo saber.
