Remember remember, the fifth of November, the gunpowder treason and plot, I find no reason why the gunpowder treason should ever be forgot. Does this poem sound familiar? Should you be a film lover you might know it from the famous speech that the main character V gives on the movie Vendetta. However, for England, it consist of the famous poem of Guy Fawkes, do you happen to know who this guy was?

To be more specific, Guy Fawkes was a British soldier who participated on the gunpowder plot of 1605 which aim was to blow up the Parliament, Westminster, in response to the increasing oppression towards the Catholics. According to the legend, the plotters, above all, Fawkes, placed gunpowder in a cellar that was underneath the Parliament. Nevertheless, the plot was discovered and the night of the 4^th of November Fawkes was arrested. Consequently, from that moment onwards, so as to commemorate the failure attempt to blow up Westminster, the fifth of November is celebrated around the whole UK  with bonfires and fireworks. Having said that, how do locals celebrate it?

The Guy Fawkes day is quite interesting since each neighbourhood organises its own fireworks display. What is more, during the whole week prior the 5^th of November, every single school chooses one evening to show fireworks and even some households throw their own ones in their private gardens.

The fireworks day is utterly special, being a perfect plan to do with your friends during winter, specially if after the spectacle you go to a bar and have a pint of beer or a hot chocolate. The point is that it is a day to mark on the calendar and a day that bring us together. Remember the remember the fifth of November!

¡Recuerda, recuerda! El 5 de noviembre, conspiración, pólvora y traición. No veo la demora y siempre es la hora de evocarla sin dilación. ¿Te resulta familiar este poema? Para ser más específicos, Guy Fakes fue un soldado británico que participó en la conpiración de pólvora que se llevó a cabo en 1605, cuyo objetivo era volar el parlamento, Westminster, en respuesta a la presión creciente hacia los católicos. Según la leyenda, los conspiradores, sobre todo Fawkes, pusieron pólvora en un sótano situado debajo del parlamento. No obstante, la trama fue descubierta y la noche del 4 de noviembre Fawkes fue arrestado. Como consecuencia, desde aquel momento, como homenaje al fallido intento de atentado, se celebra el 5 de noviembre la fiesta de Guy Fawkes con hogueras y fuegos artificiales por todo Reino Unido . Dicho esto, ¿cómo lo celebran los locales?

El día de los fuegos es muy interesante ya que cada barrio organiza su propio evento. De hecho, es más, durante los días previos al cinco de noviembre cada colegio escoge una noche para tirar sus fuegos, e incluso hay casas privadas que lanzan los suyos desde sus jardines.

El cinco de noviembre es un día muy especial, siendo un plan perfecto para disfrutar con tus amigos o familia durante el invierno, sobre todo si después del espectáculo vas al bar a beber una cerveza o un cola cao. El caso es que es un día para marcar en el calendario y una excusa para juntarnos. Recuerda, recuerda, el cinco de noviembre.
