The freedom day/El día de la libertad

Last Sunday a storm of criticism arose against the new UK Health Secretary, Sajid Javid, after he encouraged people to stop acting cowardly towards this Covid-19 pandemic, once he recovered from his mild coronavirus symptoms. Indeed an unfortunate quote that has provoked a huge backlash since many people have suffered the lost of loved ones and have had to self isolate in order to protect themselves.

Certainly, polemic words that turned out to be the top of the iceberg after an arduous freedom week that many managers have gone through for almost every single employee has had no option but to self isolate, being forced to shut down shops or to suspend their services. What is going on? Why are store selves empty? Who is responsible of this chaos?

To begin with, citizens should be able to apply their common sense even if their government makes absurd decisions as to how to prevent the spread of the Delta variant. Notwithstanding, we can see that this is impossible, thus the Prime Minister is expected to follow science advise and take care of its townspeople. However, despite the enormous peak of infections taking place in the UK right now, Boris Johnson decided that the 19^th July was perfect timing to uplift every covid restriction. Nonetheless, at the same time that he highly recommended to still be cautious and avoid crowded indoor places, he also allowed the reopening of nightclubs and asked workers to come back to the office, hence the return to the use of the underground in rush hour. To sum up, totally contradictory measures that don´t make any sense at all.

In light of this view, many people couldn´t believe the logic behind this action and Boris highlighted that we definitely need to learn how to live with the pandemic so as to restart the economy of the UK. Nevertheless, he pointed out the importance of self isolation whenever the NHS pings a person that has been in direct contact with an infected person, which basically has turned the isle into chaos. What is happening? On account of the high number of cases that are arising, so many people are being asked to self isolate that supplies are not reaching shops and some of them have to close due to the lack of available staff to  work.

In conclusion, business are still struggling to survive and the coronavirus is everywhere, out of control. What is wrong with this stubborn Government? Is it too difficult to follow the experts guideline? I guess that what they want is for all people to get infected whilst doctors are warning that more and more youngsters are being treated in hospital intensive units. Let´s see what happens in one month should young people not receive the second vaccine doses soon.

El pasado domingo hubo una ola de críticas en contra del nuevo Ministro de Salud del Reino Unido, Sajid Javid, tras animar a que los ciudadanos dejen de actuar de forma cobarde contra esta pandemia de Covid-19. Palabras desafortunadas que salieron de su boca nada más recuperarse de un covid suave, que han provocado el enfado de muchas personas que han perdido a sus seres queridos o que han tenido que confinarse debido a su alta vulnerabilidad.

Esta polémica ha sido la punta del iceberg tras una caótica semana en la que el levantamiento total de las restricciones sanitarias ha conllevado que muchas tiendas hayan visto sus estanterías vacías, viéndose algunas obligadas a cerrar por falta de personal. Y es que muchísimos trabajadores deben estar en casa confinados. Pero, ¿qué está pasando?, ¿Quién es el responsable de este caos?

Para empezar, los ciudadanos deberían ser capaces de aplicar su sentido común incluso si el Gobierno no toma decisiones coherentes para prevenir que la variante Delta se propague. Sin embargo, ya vemos que esto no es posible, con lo cual el Primer Ministro debería seguir los consejos de los científicos expertos con el fin de proteger a la población.

No obstante, a pesar del enorme pico de infecciones que está actualmente teniendo lugar en el Reino Unido, Boris Johnson decidió que el 19 de Julio tenía que ser el día de la libertad eliminando todas las restricciones sanitarias. Eso sí, a la vez que recomendaba tener cuidado y evitar aglomeraciones, permitió que las discotecas abriesen y pidió a los trabajadores volver a  la oficina, con lo cual el metro ha vuelto a ser una lata de sardinas. En resumidas cuentas, medidas y consejos totalmente contradictorios que no tienen sentido alguno.

Teniendo esto en cuenta, muchos residentes se han llevado las manos a la cabeza cuando Boris ha destacado que hay que aprender a vivir con la pandemia, pues hay que reactivar la economía. No obstante, también ha recalcado la importancia de confinarse si Sanidad te alerta de que has estado en contacto directo con un caso positivo, lo cual ha llevado a la isla a un profundo caos. ¿Qué está sucediendo? Bien sencillo, debido a lo rápido que se está propagando el virus, son tantas las personas que se están viendo obligadas a confinarse que los suministros no llegan y muchos empleados no pueden ir a trabajar.

En conclusion, numerosas empresas siguen sufriendo y la covid está fuera de control. ¿Por qué este Gobierno es tan cabezón? ¿Es tan difícil hacer caso a los expertos? Supongo que lo que quieren es que todo el mundo se infecte mientras los médicos alertan de que cada vez más jóvenes están llenando las UCIS. Veamos qué pasa de aquí a un mes.
