Happy Birthday Aloisi! / ¡Feliz cumple Aloisi!

Last Monday marked the birthday of one of the people I admire the most. Have you heard of John Aloisi? You might be familiar with him if you are at least in your thirties, however, youngsters might not know who he is, and that is a shame, especially if they are fans of Osasuna. Why am I saying this? Because he made history with the Reds. Do you remember?

John Aloisi, who turned 48 last Monday, came to Osasuna around the age of 25, in 2001, when the peseta was still in use in Spain. At that time, I was 12 years old, but by the age of fifteen, I was the number one fan of our local team. Not only did I attend every single football match at El Sadar, but I also frequently went to Tajonar to watch the team train. Indeed, I would collect loads of signatures from the players. Nevertheless, the one I liked the most was Aloisi.

Aloisi was a particularly hardworking player, very down-to-earth, and quite easygoing. He was even impressed when, after a match between Osasuna and Real Madrid, I didn't seek the signature of David Beckham but his instead. Moreover, when I turned fifteen, my friends asked him to sign the wrapping of my birthday present with birthday wishes, and I have to say, it is one of the best gifts I have ever received. In fact, I still have that note.

Anyway, taking my teenage crush on him to one side, I would like young fans to know about him since he was the one who gave us hope in the Spanish Copa del Rey Final in 2005. What´s more, he made history, since he was the one who gave us the chance to be the winners.

On balance, anyone who experienced that historic match remembers him thanks to that. And, of course, John will never forget his four years playing here. He even has a daughter who was born here and whose name is Amaya, so you can imagine his attachment to this city. Aloi, aloi, aloiisíii! Happy birthday, canguroo!

El pasado lunes fue el cumpleaños de una de las personas que más admiro. ¿Has oído hablar de John Aloisi? Es posible que lo conozcas si tienes al menos treinta años, sin embargo, puede que los más jóvenes no sepan quién es, y eso es una lástima, especialmente si son muy forofillos de Osasuna. ¿Por qué digo esto? Porque él hizo historia con los Rojillos. ¿Recuerdas?

John Aloisi, que cumplió 48 años el pasado lunes, llegó a Osasuna alrededor de los 25 años, en 2001, cuando la peseta aún se usaba en España. En ese momento, yo tenía 12 años, pero a los quince ya era la fanática número uno de nuestro equipo local. No solo asistía a cada partido de fútbol en El Sadar, sino que también iba con frecuencia a Tajonar para ver entrenar al equipo. De hecho, recogía muchas firmas de los jugadores. No obstante, el que más me gustaba era Aloisi.

Aloisi era un jugador muy trabajador, muy humilde y bastante tranquilo. Incluso se quedó impresionado cuando, después de un partido entre Osasuna y el Real Madrid, no quise la firma de David Beckham, sino la suya. Por otro lado, cuando cumplí quince años, mis amigas le pidieron que firmara el envoltorio de mi regalo con una felicitación, y tengo que decir que es uno de los mejores regalos que he recibido. Todavía conservo esa nota.

Bueno, dejando de lado mi "crush" adolescente, me gustaría que los jóvenes lo conocieran, ya que fue él quien nos dio esperanza en la final de la Copa del Rey en 2005. Y es que hizo historia. Fue él quien nos dio la oportunidad de ser los ganadores. Lo que es más, cualquiera que haya vivido ese partido histórico lo recuerda gracias a él. Y, por supuesto, John nunca olvidará sus cuatro años jugando aquí. Incluso tiene una hija nacida aquí y llamada Amaya, así que puedes imaginar su apego a esta ciudad. ¡Aloi, aloi, aloiisíii! ¡Feliz cumpleaños, canguro!
